The Lowell Mills Trip - January 22, 2013

On January 22, 2013, Candini class and O’connor class went to Lowell Mills for a field trip. Francis Cabot Lowell revolutionized the early stages in the United States. Upon the trip to England, he observed the cotton mills. Lowell was inspired to create a system of textile mills. There are many gadgets that they need to have water power machines. There are man made canals so they can get water. The water power is used for making cloths. They used dams to stop the water from going to the canal, so they can build the canal. The canal was man made and they didn’t have cranes and any mechanical machines. They made the cloth into clothes and sold the clothes for money.

We had a great time on our field trip and we learned a whole lot!  In the afternoon, we did a really cool workship.  Some kids were engineers and they built a system of canals.  Other kids were scientists and they tested water wheels.
