Welcome back!

I hope everyone had a fun and restful February vacation!  It was wonderful to spend time with family and catch up with old friends but I was happy to see everyone Monday morning!

A few updates:

Writing
Over the past month, we have been learning about persuasive writing.   We have discussed the meaning and purpose thesis statements.  We have spent lots of time talking about the importance evidence and how to support thesis statements. Be careful, your fifth grader may come home ready to persuade you!

Social Studies
Your child has completed an in depth study of either the Inca or the Aztec.  They have worked with a group to develop a newscast reporting on the where & whens, daily life, interesting facts, and downfall of their civilization. Stay tuned for the broadcast!

MCAS
We have started preparing for the upcoming ELA MCAS.  Your child will be taking the MCAS on Monday 3/17 and Wednesday 3/19.  We will be focusing on test taking strategies, breaking down text, analyzing types of questions, and answering open response questions.

A few highlights:
I’m learning a lot from the kids about producing movies and work with technology. There’s lots to learn! Here’s my first attempt at an i-movie!
